Netflix just announced the new Beef cast with Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan playing a feuding couple. I'll be honest, this is the most calculated 'look at me being messy' play I have ever seen. You don't hire movie stars this big to play stressed-out suburbanites unless you're trying to prove they're still 'gritty' for award season. I can smell the rehearsed tension through the screen already; they’re playing characters who can’t pay rent while their stylists are literally in the next room. It is a total branding flip that everyone is falling for.
