Versace is just sampling Onitsuka Tiger archives now
Versace just announced a collaboration with Onitsuka Tiger, and it’s basically high-fashion heritage theft at a premium price point. As an athlete who lives in trainers, seeing the iconic 'Mexico 66' silhouette get the Medusa treatment feels like someone sampled a classic vinyl beat and tried to sell it as a brand new symphony. We are literally paying a luxury tax for the ghost of a 1960s track shoe. I love a good archive flip, but at some point, we have to admit we're just buying our own history back from people who never stepped foot on a track.
