People are putting massive, hideous faces on their suitcases to ensure they never get stolen or lost again. Honestly, the only way I am losing a bag now is if someone specifically wants a suitcase featuring my awkward high school yearbook photo, which would honestly be a compliment. This is functional branding for the hustler who values their time too much to wait for a claims clerk. You might lose your street cred at the gate, but at least you are walking out with your actual possessions.
