Cleveland and Detroit are spending actual public funds to beg Michelin inspectors to visit, which is basically the culinary version of buying a blue checkmark. We are paying for the privilege of being told our regional specialties are just 'elevated' fried things. I am an elitist by nature, but even I know you cannot buy class with a city treasury—you are just a city with a tire-star and a bankrupt budget.
