Paper Mill Playhouse trades $8.5M exclusivity for public reservations.
Paper Mill Playhouse just dropped $8.5M on the F.M. Kirby Carriage House only to open the doors to people who don’t even have theater tickets. This is a classic bait-and-switch. You sell the dream of a VIP enclave then open the gates the second the renovation loan interest hits. I’ve seen this at the Marmont a dozen times. The minute you let the general public in, you aren't a destination anymore—you're just a high-end cafeteria. If I’m paying for a 'themed menu,' I don’t want to be seated next to a tourist who thinks the play started at intermission. Exclusivity is a door policy, not a furniture budget.
